Sports Goods Exports Surge Despite Monthly Volatility and Segment Declines

Pakistan's sports goods exports have recorded a strong double-digit expansion in the current fiscal year, even as monthly figures reveal sharp fluctuations and uneven performance across product lines.

Figures released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics indicate that outbound shipments of sports goods rose by 13.26% to $282.69m during July-February 2025-26, compared with $249.59m in the same period a year earlier. The increase reflects gains in key categories, supported by policy measures and broader market access.

Footballs remained the standout performer. Exports of the product climbed by 18.98%, reaching $175.09m from $147.17m, reinforcing Pakistan's established position in this segment. Other sports items also posted notable growth, rising by 15.51% to $68.22m from $59.06m, suggesting a widening product base.

Not all categories followed this upward trajectory. Gloves exports declined by 9.19%, falling to $39.38m from $43.37m, pointing to shifting demand and intensified competition in international markets.

Short-term trends, however, appear less consistent. On a year-on-year basis, exports increased by 6.60% in February 2026, reaching $33.25m compared with $31.19m in February 2025. During the same month, footballs and other sports products rose by 9.43% and 13.35% respectively, while gloves continued to weaken, dropping by 13.22%.

Month-on-month data paint a more subdued picture. Total shipments fell by 20.15% in February 2026 from $41.64m in January, reflecting seasonal factors and adjustments in consignments.

The overall figures suggest a sector experiencing robust annual growth, yet marked by short-term volatility and divergent performance across its main export categories.
