Pakistan’s Technology Exports Hit Record $4.6 Billion After 21% Surge

Pakistan's technology exports climbed 21% to an all-time high of $4.6 billion in fiscal year 2025-26, providing the country with increased foreign-exchange earnings as its digital economy expanded and international demand for IT-enabled services grew. Adviser to the Finance Minister Khurram Schehzad disclosed the figures on Saturday, describing the performance as a milestone for Pakistan's technology sector. He attributed the increase to an expanding digital economy and sustained government policy support. The momentum was particularly strong at the end of the fiscal year. Technology exports reached $416 million in June 2026, an increase of 12% from the preceding month and 23% from the same period a year earlier. The annual and monthly figures point to growing overseas demand for Pakistan's technology and digital services. Schehzad said this had allowed the country to strengthen its position as a competitive technology destination in international markets. The record receipts also underline the growing impo rtance of technology exports as a source of foreign exchange. According to the adviser, the sector is simultaneously creating high-value employment opportunities and attracting investment. He said these developments were supporting Pakistan's transition towards a knowledge-based and export-oriented economy. Schehzad credited continued policy support with helping sustain the industry's expansion. Among the measures he cited was the extension of the 0.25% tax regime for IT exports through 2029. The government has also been promoting digital payments while pursuing initiatives related to 5G deployment and the development of digital infrastructure, he said. According to Schehzad, these measures are intended to strengthen the wider technology ecosystem and provide a foundation for continued export-led economic growth. The $4.6 billion annual figure nevertheless remains the clearest measure cited by the adviser of the sector's recent progress. A 21% rise in a single fiscal year, accompanied by double-digit month ly and annual growth in June, indicates that overseas technology earnings continued to expand through the close of FY2025-26. Schehzad said rising international demand for IT-enabled services had been an important factor behind that performance, alongside domestic policy measures aimed at encouraging technology businesses. The combination of digital infrastructure development, planned 5G deployment, support for electronic payments and the extended tax regime forms the policy framework cited by the adviser for sustaining the sector's momentum. For Pakistan's digital economy, the immediate result is a record $4.6 billion in technology exports. Whether that pace is sustained will depend on the continued expansion envisaged by the government, but the FY2025-26 figures mark the sector's strongest export performance reported by the adviser.
