Pakistan’s Punjab province has launched a targeted subsidy programme to boost cotton production, offering financial incentives to farmers amid efforts to revive a key agricultural sector.
According to the Punjab Agriculture Department, the initiative focuses on establishing model cotton farms in the Bahawalpur Division. Farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs50,000 per unit to set up Cotton Model Farms, also referred to as hub farms.
The programme includes additional financial support aimed at modernising farming practices. Subsidies of up to Rs25,000 per unit will be provided for battery-operated spray pumps to improve pest control, while chisel ploughs will be supported with funding of up to Rs120,000 per unit to enhance land preparation.
Officials say the project is designed to increase cotton cultivation and output by equipping farmers with modern tools and techniques. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen agricultural productivity in the region.
Farmers interested in participating were invited to submit applications by April 10, 2026, with detailed eligibility criteria and application procedures available through official platforms.
The scheme targets growers in Bahawalpur Division, with authorities expecting it to contribute to higher yields and support provincial objectives of expanding cotton production.
