Punjab has moved to formalise and expand overseas employment channels, signalling a push to increase labour exports and strengthen economic linkages with foreign markets.
The provincial government approved a memorandum of understanding between the Overseas Employment Corporation and the Labour and Human Resource Department. Officials said the agreement aims to organise and broaden opportunities for workers seeking employment abroad.
Speaking at a cabinet committee meeting, Mian Mujtaba Shuja ur Rehman noted that the arrangement would facilitate the exchange of human resources with multiple countries, contributing to the province's economy.
The committee also granted a no-objection certificate for the agreement and reviewed a range of legislative and administrative proposals. These included amendments to public-private partnership rules, revisions to financial delegation frameworks, and proposed changes to existing laws governing judicial and institutional structures.
Additional measures discussed included upgrading the Narowal sub-campus of the University of Engineering and Technology to a full university and incorporating departmental laws into the Punjab Enforcement and Regulation framework.
Officials said the broader agenda reflects efforts to improve governance, enhance transparency and implement institutional reforms. The focus on overseas employment highlights the government's intent to leverage labour mobility as a source of economic support and workforce development.
