Pakistani Entrepreneur Wins Beijing Innovation Award for AI Driven Agriculture Breakthrough

A Pakistani technology entrepreneur has secured a major international innovation award in Beijing, highlighting the growing influence of foreign-led ventures within China’s competitive technology ecosystem.

Abdul Rehman, co-founder of the AgriTech startup SmartSoil AI, was awarded an RMB 200,000 government grant at the 13th Chaoyang International Talent Entrepreneurship Conference 2025. The event, organised by Beijing’s Chaoyang District authorities, is regarded as a flagship global entrepreneurship platform designed to identify scalable and market-ready technology ventures.

The selection process, according to Abdul Rehman, was highly competitive. Applications opened globally in May 2025, followed by multiple evaluation stages including international screening, semi-finals and final presentations before expert panels.

SmartSoil AI gained recognition for its integrated agricultural technology. Its system combines portable IoT soil sensors, satellite-based remote sensing and artificial intelligence to delive
r real-time crop diagnostics and optimise yields. The approach is intended to modernise farming practices while lowering operational costs, particularly in developing economies.

The award builds on a series of earlier achievements. The startup previously secured the Best Innovation Award at the AT Venture Builders Programme, another initiative supported by the Chaoyang government. It also placed second in an international Youth Climate Action and Disaster Resilience Challenge organised jointly by UNESCO and Tsinghua University, and received recognition at platforms such as the HICOOL 2025 Global Entrepreneurship Competition.

Officials view such successes as indicative of broader structural shifts. Khan Muhammad Wazir noted that China’s innovation ecosystem is increasingly open to international participants, with foreign entrepreneurs contributing to technology transfer, green development and high-quality growth.

He added that by leveraging China’s capabilities in artificial intelligence, satellite applicat
ions and hardware manufacturing, ventures like SmartSoil AI are well placed to support sustainable agriculture and food security initiatives, particularly across developing regions.

The recognition underscores a wider trend: as global innovation platforms expand, cross-border collaboration is becoming central to advancing technology-driven solutions in sectors such as agriculture.
