According to Radio Pakistan, there is a risk of flooding in rivers and streams across Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. A low-level flood is expected at Marala and Qadirabad points on the Chenab River. Increased water flow is anticipated in the Kabul, Indus, Chenab, Swat, Panjkora, Chitral, and Hunza rivers, as well as other streams.
The NEOC further stated that flooding is also expected in northeastern Punjab, southern Balochistan, and Azad Kashmir due to heavy rains. Streams originating from the Pir Panjal range in northeastern Punjab may overflow, potentially causing local flooding.
In Azad Kashmir, sudden flooding is anticipated in the Jhelum River and its tributaries. Meanwhile, a sudden rise in water levels is possible in the Hunza River and streams in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Streams originating from the Kirthar Range in southern Balochistan, especially in the districts of Awaran, Khuzdar, Jhal Magsi, Qila Saifullah, and Musakhel, may experience flood conditions.
The general public is advised to avoid crossing fast-flowing streams, bridges, and submerged roads. Residents of low-lying areas should make early arrangements to move valuables and livestock to safer locations.
People in vulnerable areas should prepare an emergency kit with three to five days’ supply of food, water, and medicines. Local administrations and relevant departments should keep necessary machinery and pumps ready for immediate drainage. Residents in flood-prone areas should stay updated with official warnings via TV and mobile alerts.
The NDMA has instructed all relevant institutions to ensure proactive measures are in place to handle any potential emergency. The public is advised to stay informed about weather updates and potential hazards through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert App.
