Energy Storage Emerges As Key Test For Pakistan’s Industrial Competitiveness

Advanced energy storage could prove increasingly important to Pakistan's industrial competitiveness and energy security, industry leaders and policymakers said, arguing that affordable and reliable power is essential for lowering production costs, attracting investment and supporting the transition towards a greener economy.

The assessment came at the 'Innovation Driving the Energy Future' Growatt Full-Scenario Storage Launch in Lahore, where representatives from industry and government discussed energy-storage technologies and potential investment opportunities in the sector. Zaki Aijaz, Regional Chairman of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), said the availability of affordable and dependable energy was crucial for raising industrial productivity. High energy costs bear directly on production expenses and the investment environment, making the reliability and affordability of power an important consideration for businesses, according to his remarks.

Aijaz called for closer cooperation between the government, private businesses and international partners to accelerate the adoption of clean-energy solutions. The emphasis on collaboration reflects the scale of the transition envisaged by participants: energy storage is being considered not merely as a technological addition but as part of efforts to strengthen energy security while improving the competitiveness of industry.

Faiz Ahmed, Chief Executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), said sustainable energy technologies offered opportunities for economic growth and industrial modernisation. The discussion placed energy storage within the wider shift towards a sustainable green economy, with participants highlighting its potential role in supporting industry as energy systems evolve. Punjab Energy Secretary Muhammad Ajmal Bhatti and SM Solar Chief Executive Officer Adil Mehmood also attended the event.

The gathering concluded with an interactive discussion involving industrialists and investors. Participants examined emerging trends in energy-storage technologies as well as possible investment opportunities in the sector. The deliberations underscored a central concern for Pakistan's industrial sector: reliable energy at an affordable cost remains important to productivity and investment. Industry representatives argued that advanced storage technologies, accompanied by cooperation between the public and private sectors and international partners, could form part of the response.
