Pakistan’s Car Sales More Than Double in July as Suzuki Alto and Swift Lead a 141% Surge

Pakistan's car showrooms have had their busiest start to a fiscal year in some time. Sales of cars jumped by 141.28% year-on-year to 17,216 units in July 2026, the first month of the 2026-27 financial year, according to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA). That compares with just 7,135 units in July 2025, and the gains were led by Suzuki's budget models, with the Swift recording the steepest rise among the major nameplates.

The Suzuki Swift's sales soared by 286.59% to 2,018 units, from 522 a year earlier. The Suzuki Alto, one of the country's best-selling cars, posted the largest volume, with sales rising to 7,217 units from 2,327. On its own, the Alto accounted for well over a third of all cars sold during the month.

Other Suzuki models also gained ground. Sales of the Cultus climbed to 392 units from 239, while Every rose by 54.06% to 493 units from 320. The breadth of the increase across the brand's line-up suggests demand concentrated at the more affordable end of the market.

Toyota and Honda shared in the recovery. Sales of the Toyota Corolla and Yaris rose by 77.12% to 4,283 units, from 2,418 in July 2025. Honda's Civic and City together sold 2,529 units, more than double the 1,143 recorded a year earlier.

Not every model rode the wave. Sales of the Hyundai Elantra fell to just 25 units, down from 66 in the same month last year. The decline stands out against an otherwise buoyant market.

Electric vehicles, though still a niche, also moved higher. Sales of the Dewan Honri-VE doubled to 48 units in July 2026, from 24 a year earlier. The absolute numbers remain tiny, but the rise indicates growing, if limited, interest in battery-powered cars.

Taken together, the July figures show a car market regaining momentum after a weak period a year earlier. Much of the surge comes from comparison with a low base, and the strongest growth was concentrated in smaller, cheaper models. Whether such brisk demand can be sustained through the rest of the fiscal year will be watched closely by manufacturers and dealers alike.
