Pakistan and China are deepening cooperation in livestock technology and research, with new agreements signalling a shift towards structured knowledge transfer and joint innovation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor framework.
The latest developments follow a visit by Jinan Animal Husbandry Industry Craftsman College, held alongside the 2026 China-Pakistan Agriculture Investment Conference. Officials say the collaboration has produced substantive outcomes aimed at strengthening bilateral engagement in the livestock sector.
Two key agreements were signed to formalise the partnership. A framework deal with the Pak-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry will establish a China-Pakistan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Industry Technology Cooperation Center. The facility is expected to focus on research and development, standard-setting, and specialised training programmes.
A separate memorandum of understanding with GO DAIRY Private Limited centres on the transfer of advanced breeding technologies. These include sheep in vitro fertilisation and dairy cow breeding methods, supported by tailored solutions and on-site technical guidance to address production challenges.
Academic collaboration also forms part of the initiative. An understanding with the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences will support joint curriculum development and the creation of a shared training base, aimed at building sector-specific expertise.
Officials indicated that a structured implementation plan has been developed to ensure continuity. The Chinese institution plans to establish a dedicated cooperation centre and maintain regular communication channels with Pakistani partners to coordinate ongoing projects.
The initiative aligns with broader efforts to expand cooperation under CPEC 2.0, with a focus on industrial upgrading and capacity building. By combining research, training, and technology transfer, both sides aim to enhance productivity and modernise livestock practices in Pakistan.
The agreements reflect a growing emphasis on targeted collaboration in agriculture-related industries, where improved techniques and skills development are seen as critical for long-term sectoral growth.
