Gas Supply Restored To Agritech Urea Plant After Middle East Disruptions

Pakistan's fertiliser supply chain has stabilised after gas flows to a key urea plant were restored, following disruptions linked to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Agritech Limited confirmed that gas supply to its urea facility has resumed, enabling operations to restart. The development was disclosed in a filing to the Pakistan Stock Exchange after supply was reinstated by Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited. The plant had been shut down on March 4 after the gas utility warned of a potential force majeure on liquefied natural gas supplies. The disruption was attributed to escalating conflict in the Middle East, which affected shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. At the time, several tanker operators, oil companies and trading houses halted shipments of crude oil, fuel and LNG after security concerns emerged in the region. These developments constrained fuel availability and forced temporary suspension of industrial activity. With gas supply now restored, the company indicated that urea production would resume, helping ease pressure on domestic fertiliser availability. Agritech, originally incorporated as Pak-American Fertilizers Limited in 1959, produces urea and granulated single super phosphate under the Tara brand. The restart of its operations highlights the vulnerability of Pakistan's industrial base to global energy supply disruptions, as well as the importance of stable gas flows for agricultural inputs.
