ECP Announces the Exact Date for General Elections in Pakistan

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has informed the Supreme Court of Pakistan that February 11, 2024 has been set as the date for the general elections in the country.

During the hearing of the case related to the scheduling of general elections in 90 days, the ECP informed the three-member bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa about the election date.

The ECP’s lawyer apprised the Supreme Court’s bench that the delimitation process will be completed by November 30 and the elections will be held on February 11, 2023.

It should be noted that the apex court is hearing the pleas of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and others, seeking timely elections in the country.

The Chief Justice asked the ECP’s lawyer about President Arif Alvi’s stance on the matter. Justice Athar Minallah remarked that the President of Pakistan has the authority to fix the election date.

Later, the Election Commission was ordered to approach President Arif Alvi to ask for his opinion in this regard.

The ECP’s lawyer told the apex court that all the arrangements will be completed by January 29. He added that elections will be held on Sunday to ensure maximum participation of the voters.
