The drive to digitise regulatory processes governing trade organisations is being positioned as a key step towards improving transparency, operational efficiency and the ease of doing business in Pakistan, as policymakers and business representatives increasingly advocate technology-led reforms. The message emerged at the 'Change Management Session on Digitalization of DGTO Processes', organised by the Directorate General of Trade Organizations (DGTO) in collaboration with Pakistan Single Window (PSW), where participants discussed the role of digital transformation in modernising Pakistan's business environment. Speaking at the closing session, President of the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Sardar Tahir Mehmood, said the digitalisation of DGTO procedures would contribute significantly to institutional efficiency and stakeholder facilitation. He noted that the global economy is rapidly shifting towards digitisation, automation and data-driven governance, arguing that Pakistan must accel erate reform efforts to establish a more modern and efficient commercial ecosystem. According to Mehmood, the transition to digital processes is expected to simplify regulatory requirements, reduce paperwork, strengthen communication channels and improve operational performance for trade organisations across the country. He welcomed the initiative undertaken by DGTO and PSW, describing it as a timely effort aimed at institutional modernisation. He also acknowledged the contributions of Adnan Khan, Director DGTO; Pir Shah Gul, Deputy Director DGTO; Rizwan Samad, Deputy Manager PSW; Muhammad Ahmad, Domain Officer PSW; Shah Zeb, Staff Business Analyst; and Noman Khan, Business Analyst PSW for conducting what he described as an informative and productive session. A key theme of the discussion was stakeholder engagement. Mehmood praised Pakistan Single Window for adopting a consultative approach by involving chambers of commerce and trade associations during the development of the automated system. He argued tha t reforms tend to be more effective and sustainable when end users and stakeholders are actively involved throughout the implementation process. The ICCI president also highlighted the importance of change management, emphasising that digital transformation extends beyond the deployment of technology. He said successful implementation requires building confidence among users, enhancing technical capabilities and ensuring adaptability across institutions and organisations. To support the transition, he called for continued awareness campaigns, training programmes and technical assistance mechanisms to facilitate smooth adoption of the new system. Mehmood further stressed the need for a secure, integrated and user-friendly digital platform capable of addressing the practical requirements of trade organisations operating in different parts of the country. Reaffirming the business community's support for the initiative, he assured DGTO and PSW of ICCI's full cooperation in advancing the reform programme throug h stronger public-private collaboration and institutional coordination.
