A technology company best known for its consumer apps has entered Pakistan’s consumer-credit market. Yango Pakistan, part of the global Yango Group, has launched “Pay Later”, a Sharia-compliant service that lets shoppers split purchases into equal payments. It is the company’s first financial product in Pakistan.
Customers can divide eligible purchases into equal payments made every two weeks. For retailers, the service is intended to attract more customers and increase sales.
For now, the service is available only as a pilot on the websites of selected partner retailers. Shoppers can also find participating stores in the Shop section of the Yango SuperApp.
The first participants include Habitt, Sana Safinaz, Bagallery, Ego, Walkeaze and Scent N Secrets. Yango Pakistan plans to expand the network by the end of the year to more than 100 of the country’s largest online retailers in fashion, beauty, home goods and electronics.
The company says the product complies with Islamic finance principles. Dr Muhammad Imran Ashraf Usmani of Usmani and Co. Shariah Advisors reviewed the scheme and concluded that its structure and operating rules are consistent with Sharia law.
Miral Sharif, Yango Pakistan’s country head, said partnerships with local businesses were central to the company’s strategy. He described Pay Later as an extension of that approach into financial services, which he said could help retailers reach new customers and support Pakistan’s growing digital economy.
Ali Hussain, head of sales at Yango Fintech in Pakistan, said the service gives retailers another way to make products more affordable and encourage customers to complete purchases. He said the product was designed for Pakistan, with Sharia principles built into its structure from the start.
The company did not disclose how many instalments are allowed, whether customers pay any fees, how creditworthiness will be checked or how missed payments will be handled. Those details will determine how much the service benefits consumers and how quickly it grows beyond the pilot.
