QUETTA: Talks were in progress for securing 1000 mw of electricity form Iran for Balochistan and soon an agreement would be signed in connection. This electricity would be brought to Quetta from Iran which would help meet electricity needs of the province. This information was given to Balochistan Chief Minister Nawab Aslam Raisani by Managing Director PEPCO while talking to him on telephone Friday.
Chief Minister had contacted him during his meeting with Zamindar Action Committee which called on him here today. Apprising MD PEPCO, Chief Minister expressed provincial government concern over issue of shortage of electricity in the province and stressed the need for immediate resolution of this problem.
Chief Minister said that due to non availability of electricity a serious concern prevails among zamindars in the province and they intend to protest which may create law and order situation. Therefore steps should be taken immediately to meet electricity requirements and ending long load shedding.
MD PEPCO assured that this problem would be resolved and immediate directives would be given to QESCO authorities.
President Zamindar Action Committee Taj Muhammad Agha and Secretary General Abdul Rehman Bazai told Chief Minister that load shedding duration in the country has been minimized. Contrary to this it has been enhanced and agri consumers were being supplied power for four hours only in Balochistan. They said if same situation remains then people affiliated to agriculture sector would be forced to hunger.
It was decided that a meeting of Zamindars would be arranged during the visit of Prime Minister to Quetta and he would be apprised for non implementation of revival of subsidy on agri tube wells and he would also be apprised of long duration load shedding.
