Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority urges to set up Institute of 3D Printing and Packaging Technology

Karachi, July 14, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (UNISAME) have proposed to the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) to set up an Institute of Printing and Packaging Technology (IP and PT) for the benefit of the sector to educate them in the latest 3D printing also known as additive printing.

President UNISAME Zulfikar Thaver said SMEDA needs to set up the IP and PT and introduce the three dimensional printing technology to the sector to meet global challenges for their packaging designing and attractive packing.

He said UNISAME had suggested the IP and PT at the time of the framing of the SME policy in 2007 and highlighted the importance of printing and packaging technology but unfortunately the policy makers underated the need and requirement of the institute. However now with the introduction of the 3 D printing technology, it is very important that the sector is made aware of its benefits for the modern printing and packaging to meet global challenges.

It is pertinent to note that attractive printing and packaging is very important for the eye catching effect on shelves in super markets and chain stores and the SME sector must not lag behind. UNISAME looks forward to SMEDA for proactive role in the modernization of the printing and packaging industry for the SME sector and lessening the reliance on imports.
