Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority urges Chinese Trade delegation to invest in Special Economic Zones in Pakistan

Lahore, March 27, 2014 (PPI-OT): The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) urged the 24-Member Chinese Trade Delegation to invest in Special Economic Zones to be set up in Pakistan. SMEDA experts, while giving a briefing to the delegation on trade and investment opportunities existing in SME sector of the country, said that Pakistan had a huge potential of foreign investment in the fields of Information Technology, Construction, Logistics, Textile, Engineering, Agriculture, Livestock, Food Processing and Minerals.

Mr. Tan Chengce, Vice Chairman Yantai Chamber of Commerce and Industry was leading the delegation. Whereas, Mr. Salahuddin Hanif, Secretary General Pak-China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI) was accompanying the delegation as Coordinator, as the delegation is visiting Pakistan on invitation of the PCJCCI.

The delegation leader Mr. Tan Chengce emphasized upon exchange of more trade delegation between Pakistan and China to transform the deep friendly relations into increased bilateral economic cooperation. He said, the private and public sectors of both the countries should avail of the facilitation to be offered by the government of Pakistan and China to expand industrial and commercial joint ventures between the two friendly nations.

He acknowledged that the information shared by SMEDA had encouraged the delegation members to extend free hand to the local counterparts for joint ventures in the Special Economic Zones of Pakistan. He told that the delegation was comprised of the CEOs of the Chinese companies mostly dealing in Fertilizer, Pesticides, seeds, Textile garments, Spinning, Dying, Printing and Jean clothing.

Mr. Wang Zi Hai, President Lahore Branch of the Association of Chinese Enterprises introduced the members of delegation and expressed gratitude to SMEDA for the warm reception of his delegations.

Earlier, a team of SMEDA experts comprising Ms. Nadia Jahangir Seth, DGM, Policy and Planning, Mr. Sheharyar Tahir, Manager External Relations and Mr. Muhammad Imran Chaudhry, Manager SMEDA-UNIDO Investment Promotion Unit welcomed the delegation and gave briefing on the potential of Pakistan’s SME sector along with the projects and services of SMEDA to accelerate this sector.
