Services, goods exports up

KARACHI: The exports of services and goods registered 23 percent rise to touch $5.012 billion during the first two months of the current fiscal year against $4.08 billion in the corresponding months last year, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said.

The imports of such trade also grew by 13 percent during the period under review to $7.879 billion against $6.968 billion.

The improvement in export performance helped curtail the trade deficit on previous levels. The trade deficit of goods and services stood at $2.867 billion during July/August against $2.888 billion in the corresponding period of 2010. The export of services climbed up by 23.58 percent to $760 million during the period against $615 million. The import of services also registered increase of 6.64 percent to $1.189 billion against $1.115 billion.
