Royal Aeronautical Society celebrates 150 years of its formation

Karachi, February 09, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Pakistan Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society celebrated 150 years of its formation in a seminar held at PAF Air War College, Faisal. The seminar encompassed the Past, Present and Future of Aeronautics. Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force was the Chief Guest at the occasion. The seminar was one of a series of events being organized by the Society to celebrate the achievements of the Royal Aeronautical Society in the field of Aviation.

Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman while addressing at the occasion and appreciated the Pakistan Division of the Royal Aeronautical Society for the efforts in organizing the seminar. He also appreciated the quality of the presentations during the seminar and thanked the Society for giving him an opportunity to be a part of its endeavours for advancement in aeronautics. The Chief Guest distributed mementos to the honourable speakers and also awarded diplomas to newly elected Fellows, Associates and Affiliates of the Society.

Earlier Air Marshal Salim Arshad (retd), President of Pakistan Division, RAeS welcomed the participants and explained the achievements of the Society during the last 150 years; its current role in providing a rational view on issues that impact on the industry; and what the RAeS can offer in the future. Later, Capt. Jan Syed Muhammad Sadiq FRAeS, an aviator, aviation historian, and author of three aviation related books gave a lecture on a Short History of Aviation, which was illustrated with rare pictures of all kinds of civil and military aircraft.

The second lecture was delivered by Mr. Salahuddin, the Executive Director of the Management Association of Pakistan and the former Director Marketing of PIA. He gave an insightful lecture on Commercial Aviation and the Aeropolitical Framework, which was of tremendous interest to the participants who were wary of the state of commercial aviation in Pakistan.

Later, Group Captain Dr. Aamir Hasan, gave a very informative lecture on The Evolution of Aircraft Manufacturing in Pakistan. Lastly, Dr. Wali Mughni, an aviator, scholar and an academic, the President of the Karachi Institute of Management and Aviation Sciences gave a fascinating and scholarly view on the Future of Aviation.

The Society was founded in 1866, before the first controlled flight by the Wright Brothers. The Society has been at the forefront of innovation and developments in aviation since its inception. As a multidisciplinary Society it has been able to command knowledge on all current issues facing the aviation industry today. The Society facilitates not only professional development by providing historical and current information but also networking ability.

Additionally, the Society provides a vital function for the global aerospace community in recognition of individual excellence through its awards, medals and Fellowships. It promotes the highest professional standards in all aerospace disciplines, and plays a leading role in influencing opinion and policy on civil and defence aerospace matters.

The ceremony was largely attended by senior officers of all the three armed forces, Civil Aviation Authority, senior executives of airlines, members of the Royal Aeronautical Society in Pakistan, corporate executives and prominent citizens.
