LAHORE: Punjab Industrial Estates has decided to setup two power plants having capacity of 50 Megawatts each at Sundar and Bhalwal Industrial Estates in Lahore and Bhalwal districts during this fiscal year.
It was decided at a meeting of Board of Directors of Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company held at its city office. The meeting was presided over by S.M. Tanveer, Chairman PIEDMC on Sunday.
The meeting resolved that the Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif was making untiring efforts to maintain uninterrupted power supply and for building more and more power units in order to provide electricity and energy to the people of Punjab and its industrial and commercial consumers. More power projects in two industrial estates have been envisaged in line with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab, S.M. Tanveer said.
The preliminary work to setup these two power units have been completed and land has already been earmarked at both the industrial estates. It is worthwhile mentioning that PIEDMC has already established a special wing to look after energy affairs in all the industrial estates functioning under it.
The BOD meeting examined different options like Coal, Thermal, Solar and Gas. It was decided that first ever Coal fired power unit in any industrial estate in the country will be setup at Bhalwal. The requirements of Coal will be met by indigenous sources, however, at early stage initialization of imported coal had been considered during the meeting.
