President Zardari to visit Azerbaijan shortly, Pakistan-Azerbaijan Business Forum to be established

Karachi: Ambassador of Azerbaijan Dashgin Shikarov said on Thursday that President Zardari’s visit to Azerbaijan is expected shortly and during his visit Pakistan-Azerbaijan Business Forum will be established.

During a meeting with President of Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry, he also invited KCCI delegation to his country and informed about the possibility of investment in the oil and gas exploration sector and electricity export to Pakistan.

He also pointed out the potential of joint ventures in Pharmaceutical and manufacturing of surgical goods. Pakistan can export to Azerbaijan its value-added agricultural products like mangoes, dates, fruits, sports and surgical goods. Pakistan’s Basmati rice has a huge demand in Azerbaijan, he conversed.

“Pakistan and Azerbaijan are two Muslim brother countries having profound love and regard for each other,” he said adding that Pakistan after Turkey was the second country to recognize Azerbaijan.

“Pakistan supports Azerbaijan on the dispute of Armenia and likewise Azerbaijan supports Pakistan on the dispute of Kashmir,” ambassador said and termed the political relations between two countries as excellent.

He highlighted that in the Joint Ministerial Session held in December 2011 both sides decided to enhance economic relations at par to the political relations.

He said that Azerbaijani visa regime is strict for countries worldwide however for the citizens of Pakistan and Turkey visa policy is open. He said that Karachi Chamber’s recommendation will be treated as adequate requirement for issuance of business visas.

He said that Azerbaijan has a liberal investment policy and Pakistani can invest there. He told that Azerbaijan has a strong industrial base and textile industry. He also sought KCCI’s proposals on bilateral trade prospects.

Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry’s President Mian Abrar Ahmad urged the Azerbaijani investors to invest in the oil and gas exploration sector in Pakistan and highlighted the possibilities of trade in agricultural value-added products.

While exchanging views with the Ambassador of Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Dashgin Shikarov he focused on the existing potential of regional trade with Central Asian Republics and Azerbaijan. He was of the view that economic relations between Central Asian Republics and SAARC countries will be a win-win situation and bring economic revolution in the region. Azerbaijan taking advantage of geostrategic relations of Pakistan can export their consignments from Gwadar and other ports of Karachi to SAARC, ASEAN and GCC countries.
