PPI Original Text (PPI-OT) – Chief Minister Sindh announces rupees 20 millions on World Red Cross/ Red Crescent Day

Karachi, May 09, 2012 (PPI-OT): Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS), Sindh Provincial Branch has observed World Red Cross/ Red Crescent Day and launched its website on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Mohatta Palace. World Red Cross/ Red Crescent Day which was being celebrated in 187 countries of the world.

The Chief Guest of the ceremony Chief Minister of Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Federal Minster Law Mr. Farooq. H. Naek, Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Shehla Raza, Sindh Provincial Law Minster Ayaz Soomro, Provincial Minster Muzaffar Shijra, Chairperson PRCS, Sindh Branch Mrs. Farzana Naek, Vice President Sindh Sardar Yaseen Malik, Secretary PRCS Sindh Branch Kanwar Waseem, Vice Chairman Rafique Ahmed Jaffery, representatives of IFRC, ICRC, GRC and other Present on the occasion.

Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah said in his speech in flood 2010-11, the Mega Flood of Pakistan divested most of the land in the country including the million of homeless people. The Red Crescent Society rendered remarkably humanitarian services and provided relief to the millions of people in all corner of the Province.

In order to facilitate the effected people for their recovery and rehabilitation, an Integrated Recovery Program was launched by the PRCS in Sindh with the support of its movement partners. Chief Minster announced 20 million for the Pakistan Red Crescent Society, Sindh Provincial Branch.

In order to highlight the services and reach to the all corners of the world, PRCS, Sindh Branch designed its provincial website of the Society, the inauguration of this website has done by Chief Guest of the ceremony Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah on this very important event.

Chairperson Farzhana Naek said in order to highlight the services of the Red Crescent Society, under our mandate, the Management of the Sindh Branch decided to celebrate the Red Crescent Week from 2nd to 8th May 2012. The purpose of celebrating this week, is to create awareness in the general public and especially to youth regarding our humanitarian services, the week was planned in a very strategic manner and inauguration of the week was done in the Karachi Press Club by providing training to our Journalist community in First Aid and emergency response.

The 2nd program was organized on Health Risk Reduction in one of the universities of Karachi for the young people on prevention of communicable diseases and basic health care subject. First time in the history the Red Crescent organized public event in two shopping malls for safety and First Aid mostly related to domestic emergencies.

These programs were highly appreciated by the general public. We also organized a Sea Cruise for the under privileged children as a study tour to our historical Karachi Herbal. The Red Crescent Society also organized a Mega WALK comprising of all sectors of community i.e. schools, colleges NGOs, and humanitarian Organizations on the Theme “Together for Humanity” this Walk was highly appreciated and showed the unity of all the Organizations for the cause of humanity.

In order to improve the talent of young children in Art, we organized a Painting Competition at the historical place of Frère Hall on the theme of the day i.e. “ Youth on the Move”. We shall give the awards of three best winners today in this program. The best ten painting are posted at the entrance gate of this Hall. Today, is the last day of the week in which we are observing “World Red Cross/ Red Crescent Day” and joining ourselves as a active partner to the international movement of humanitarian world.

The volunteers and staff members who worked tirelessly to provide maximum assistance to the most affected people of the flood. The Red Crescent Society has provided more than 3000 shelters, livelihood program of affected villages of Kambar Shahdadkot and Shikarpur, Basic Health Care and Water and Sanitation facilities in the most needy villages.

The PRCS, Sindh acknowledge the support and patronage of the NHQ Islamabad, the IFRC, ICRC, German Red Cross, Norwegian Red Cross, Canadian Red Cross, Danish Red Cross, Swiss Red Cross, Turkish Red Crescent, Iranian Red Crescent and other movement partners for their continues support and guidance for enabling us to provide most vulnerable people of the flood.

While moving forward to the road of success, PRCS, Sindh should not forget the most challenging situation coming on our way in shape of frequent disasters and changing security environment. We must prepare ourselves for the future challenges and therefore need support of our partners in shape of donations and technical assistance. PRCS, Sindh is extremely thankful that our movement partners who always come forward to our help during the time of miseries and unfortunate circumstances.

The society is quite hopeful that with the help of our movement partners and patronage of the Government, society shall be able to prepare our community for any future challenges. Red Crescent appeals the philanthropic community of Pakistan to support the Pakistan Red Crescent Society as much as they can for the sake of most vulnerable people.
