Pakistan urges Malaysia assist in Halal food industry

Karachi: Sindh Board of Investment SBI Chairman Muhammad Zubair Motiwala Wednesday urged Malaysia to assist Pakistan in Halal food industry.

“We need assistance from Malaysian government in technical training, equipment to set up Halal laboratories,” he told Malaysian Consul General Abu Bakar Manmat here. He was accompanied by Regional Manager Malaysian Palm Oil Board MPOB, Fairus Hidzir.

Motiwala said SBI’s initiatives to promote Halal food industry in Pakistan, particularly in Sindh are in initial phase. Sindh Government very much keen to enhance cooperation in Halal sector and signed MoU with HDC Malaysia in Kuala Lampur last December. It will be historic milestone in SBI’s progress for development of Halal industry in Pakistan.

He said government taking security steps and Pakistan still business friendly destination for investors. SBI in collaboration with TDAP organize bilateral investment conference in near future on development projects with financial aspects in which foreign investors are participating and invited Malaysian Palm Oil Company to attend.

Manmat lauded SBI initiatives for bilateral trade enhancement and invited Pakistani investors to attend Investors Conference in Malaysia in November 2011. Hidzir said Pakistan is second highest consumer of Malaysian palm oil. Malaysia seeks long term partnership with Pakistan beyond just selling, buying and willing to work on pilot projects of palm oil plantation in Pakistan.
