Ogdc discovery lifts domestic crude output by 14.5 percent:GDC Discovery Lifts Domestic Crude Output By 14.5 Percent

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced its third oil and gas discovery within a month at the Nashpa block, collectively adding 9,480 barrels per day to domestic output-equivalent to about 14.5% of Pakistan's current crude oil production.

In a statement, OGDC said the latest discovery was made at the exploratory well Baragzai X-01 (Slant) in Kohat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. The find was confirmed in the Samana Suk and Shinawari formations.

During a cased-hole drill stem test (CHDST-03), the well flowed 3,100 barrels of oil per day alongside 8.15m standard cubic feet of gas per day through a 32/64-inch choke at a wellhead flowing pressure of 3,010 pounds per square inch gauge.

Baragzai X-01 (Slant) was spudded on December 30, 2024 as an exploratory effort aimed at assessing hydrocarbon potential across multiple formations, including Lockhart, Hangu, Lumshiwal, Samana Suk, Shinawari, Datta and Kingriali.

The well was drilled to a total depth of 5,170 metres, reaching the Kingriali Formation. Earlier assessments based on wireline log evaluations led to two cased-hole drill stem tests in the Kingriali and Datta formations, both of which also yielded oil and gas discoveries.

The latest result marks OGDC's third discovery at the Nashpa block within a single month. According to the company, the cumulative additions from these finds amount to 9,480 barrels of oil per day.

OGDC stated that the new production is expected to help narrow the country's energy supply-demand gap by enhancing reliance on indigenous resources and expanding the hydrocarbon reserves base of the company, its joint venture partners and Pakistan.
