Mari Energies Limited has commenced natural gas supply of up to 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) from its Shams-1 discovery to Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), marking the commercial utilisation of a new gas discovery as Pakistan seeks to strengthen domestic energy supplies.

The company announced the development in a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday, stating that gas deliveries began following government approval and took effect from June 19, 2026, during the Extended Well Testing (EWT) period. According to the notice, the supply has started under the government's approved arrangements while production continues during the extended well testing phase. Mari Energies is the operator of Mari Development and Production Lease (DandPL) and holds a 100 percent working interest in the project, giving the company full operational and ownership control over the Shams-1 discovery.

The commencement of gas supply represents a step toward bringing additional domestic production into Pakistan's gas transmission network at a time when local energy resources remain an important component of the country's energy mix. Mari Energies describes itself as an integrated oil and gas exploration and production company with an exploration success rate of around 70 percent, compared with industry averages of approximately 33 percent nationally and 14 percent internationally, according to the company.

Its customer base includes fertiliser manufacturers, power generation companies, gas distribution utilities and refineries, making the company one of the country's key suppliers to industrial and energy-sector consumers. The latest supply arrangement enables gas from the Shams-1 discovery to enter SNGPL's network during the Extended Well Testing period under the government's approval framework, according to the company's disclosure to the stock exchange.
