Kisan Board Pakistan, NGO ‘Faith Matters’ sign MoU

LAHORE: Kisan Board Pakistan (KBP) has entered into an agreement with a non-governmental organisation (NGO) ‘Faith Matters’ to utilize latest information technology tools like short messaging services (SMS) keeping growers update about daily prices of agricultural commodities in different commodity markets.

KBP Central Secretary Information Haji Muhammad Ramzan and country manager of the NGO Riazat Chaudhry signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on Thursday.

Later talking to newsmen they said sale of agricultural commodities had become a big problem for the growers across the country.

They alleged that middlemen buy rice, sugarcane, cotton, wheat, vegetables and other agricultural produce at very cheaper rates from growers and sell them on higher rates to the end consumers.

They said growers become their prey because they do not know international and national prices and any sudden rise and fall in the prices of agricultural commodities.

Kisan Board Pakistan and NGO would use latest tools of communications including radio, television, SMS and internet to keep growers informed about the daily prices of the agricultural commodities.

Both the organisations would take benefit of expertise of each other in helping the growers to get suitable price of their produce.

They said initial work of connecting millions of farmers across the country had been completed and soon information about prices in different commodity markets would be delivered to the growers through SMS.
