Indian Commerce Minister’s Pakistan visit commence new era of relationship

Lahore: South Asian Association for Cooperation in South Asia SAARC Chamber of Commerce & Industry SAARC CCI welcoming visit of high powered Indian business delegation led by Commerce & Industry Minister Anand Sharma from February 13 to Pakistan says it will commence new era of relationship between two leading economies of South Asia.

President SAARC CCI Vikramjit Singh Sahney, former President Tariq Sayeed & Vice President Pakistan Chapter Iftikhar Ali Malik said such initiatives would help defuse political tension and bring closer to two nations. “Entourage of Commerce Minister includes top Indian businessmen, over 150 entrepreneurs, exhibitors is positive reflection, which is instrumental to further deepen economic cooperation between two leading nations of South Asia” said Sahney.

Annisul Haq, Immediate Past President of SAARC CCI from Bangladesh lauded political leadership of India & Pakistan on their recent efforts to normalize relations through economic diplomacy and expressed best wishes for further improvement saying it is drastically required for regional economic development.

Tariq Sayeed lauded recent development in wake of endeavours of both Governments for initiating business promotion strategy, which he perceived as important element for overall growth of South Asia. Iftikhar Malik was certain that visit of Indian Minister, high-powered Indian businessmen & India Show in Lahore will not only help normalize bilateral ties but also generate greater political will much required to improve bilateral business environment, which can increase economic growth and trade expansion.

Secretary General, SAARCC CCI proposed both governments to adopt 5years agenda and lay down specific timelines for its full implementation in way they could further be materialize in to Preferential Trade Agreement and further to Free Trade Agreement. He proposed dismantling non-tariff barriers and full implementation of legal obligations under SAARC Agreement on South Asian Free Trade Area SAFTA.

Three-day India Show which began Saturday at Lahore Expo will open business opportunities. CEOs delegation will visit Lahore, Karachi & Islamabad Feb 1315 & B2B meetings will be organized. These activities will give Pakistani business community confidence, create environment of trust that will boost trade normalization process positively.
