In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Kashmiris also observed Youm-e-Istehsal as Black Day. Authorities had intensified restrictions across occupied Jammu and Kashmir to prevent protests and rallies against India's illegal actions of the revocation of Article 370, with increased military presence and checkpoints in the territory. The authorities put senior APHC leader Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, Mehbooba Mufti and many others under house arrest. Meanwhile, Kashmiri-Americans staged a protest at New York's Times Square, denouncing India's human rights abuses and urging the implementation of the UN-pledged right to self-determination. Demonstrators raised slogans, including "Modi Guilty of Crimes Against Humanity in Kashmir" and "Kashmiris Reject Indian Occupation: UN Resolutions only Solution. According to a report by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, since the repeal of Kashmir's special status on August 5, 2019, the territory has witnessed a surge in human rights violatio ns, with 907 Kashmiris martyred, including 17 women and 30 young boys. Prominent Hurriyat leaders and activists remain in Indian jails, and press freedom is under threat. The report deplores India's tactics to change the Muslim-majority status of the territory, granting domicile certificates to non-Kashmiris and confiscating properties of pro-freedom leaders and activists.
