Karachi, November 09, 2015 (PPI-OT):The women entrepreneurship has been acknowledged as an important untapped source of economic growth and women’s participation in economic expansion has also been recognized as essential for a country. This was stated by Fehmeeda Kausar Jamali, Acting President FPCCI while discussing with some women entrepreneurs met her at Federation House, Karachi.

Fehmeeda Jamali further said that women empowerment encourages the trend of women entrepreneurship in the region. She appreciated the role of Women Council of ECO CCI and said that ECO CCI is playing its pivotal role in the development of Women Entrepreneurship in the region. While talking about women entrepreneurs in ECO countries, she informed that 41% companies in Turkey has women participation and this ratio is 40% in Uzbekistan, 34% in Tajikistan, 11% in Azerbaijan but in case of Pakistan it is only 7% and less than 3% in Afghanistan.

She further said that contrary to this fact it is interest to note that women participation in the parliament is highest in Pakistan and Afghanistan due reserve seats for women. She said that despite the highest rate of representation in the parliament the ration of their participation in business activities is lowest as compared to other ECO countries. She further said that there is a need to further motivate the women to participate in economic activities as at present their share is just 3% in total entrepreneurship in Pakistan.

She further said that as compared to last decade where there were few women entrepreneurs in Pakistan, now with the support of the government and others trade related organizations there are 9 women chambers in major cities working under the trade ordinance.

She said that these chambers organize business orientation programs, workshops, and lectures, for the guidance of women entrepreneurs and also work to enhance quality consciousness of women-owned enterprises. She said that FPCCI has been encouraging women entrepreneurship by way of giving them equal opportunities for participation in trade exhibitions and delegation.

She said that the women should come forward and avail the opportunities for capacity building trainings in various sectors and also develop confidence in all sectors particularly textile, garment, fashion designing, handicrafts, jewellery, leather garments, dry fruits, packaging and services sector.
