Lahore: A cutting-edge drinking water treatment plant has been inaugurated in Punjab, Pakistan, aiming to provide safe drinking water to the community. The initiative is part of the project titled ‘Scientific and Sustainable Application of Groundwater Treatment Technology for Safe Drinking Water Supply in Punjab, Pakistan’. The water quality from this facility adheres to the guidelines set by the World Health Organization (WHO). The project is funded by the Government of Korea, specifically through its Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO), in partnership with Dankook University (DKU) from South Korea.
According to Forman Christian College, the plant offers free access to safe drinking water for anyone in the FCCU community, including residents, faculty, staff, and students. The water is dispensed from five outdoor taps located on the wall of the treatment plant, available daily from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. However, this water is strictly for drinking purposes and not for other uses such as washing, cleaning, or gardening. The facility is situated at the Old English Mess, nestled between Newton Hall and Velte Hall.
In addition to free access, bottled water will soon be available for purchase. The 19-liter bottles will be priced at Rs. 100, excluding delivery charges. The service includes bottle cleaning with a chlorine solution, water filling, and bottle capping. Customers are required to return empty bottles when purchasing new ones. The Water Analysis Center conducts regular water quality tests to ensure safety. Delivery charges will vary based on the number of bottles ordered, with fees ranging from Rs. 50 to Rs. 150.
