She was addressing a session of Maritime Conference in Karachi on Saturday as part of the ongoing Pakistan International Maritime Expo and Conference.

Senator Sherry Rehman said that Pakistan was the first country last year that had to bear the brunt of climate change in the form of devastating monsoon rains and floods that were unprecedented and were confirmed to be the result of climate change.

She said misuse of natural resources has caused global warming and dumping of plastic in oceans is threatening the marine life.

Sherry Rehman said that her ministry is taking several steps to reduce to use of plastic to improve our environment for future generations.
