Pakistan's central bank is adding to its foreign exchange reserves, but only slowly. The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said its reserves rose by $19m in the week ended August 28th, 2026, reaching $17.12bn. In its weekly statement, the bank put its holdings at exactly $17,117.8m.
The increase was similar to the previous weeks. In the week ended August 21st, the SBP's reserves rose by $17m to $17.10bn, so the bank added $36m over the two weeks.
The country's total liquid foreign exchange reserves stood at $22.53bn on August 28th. Commercial banks held $5.41bn of that total in net foreign exchange reserves, while the rest was held by the central bank.
The SBP's reserves are rising steadily but by small amounts each week. They provide an important buffer against external shocks, so the direction of these weekly changes is closely watched.
