The Punjab government has unveiled a plan to deploy mobile agricultural laboratories across 15 districts, aiming to deliver soil and water testing services directly to farmers' doorsteps and improve crop planning during the current season.

Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the provincial administration announced the launch of the 'Agriculture Lab on Wheels' initiative. The programme seeks to bridge gaps in agricultural extension services by providing on-the-spot analysis of soil fertility and water quality.

Through the mobile units, cultivators will receive immediate assessment reports, enabling more accurate decisions regarding crop selection and resource management. Officials stated that a central control room will oversee operations to ensure both efficiency and transparency in service delivery.

In parallel, the government plans to establish 100 container-based farmer facilitation centres across all districts of Punjab. These facilities will be equipped with data call centres, agriculture officers, digital tools and other technical resources designed to provide timely advisory support.

The chief minister said that the initiative would ensure farmers gain access to reliable agricultural information without delay, strengthening decision-making at the field level. She expressed confidence that such measures would contribute to a record wheat yield during the current season.

Officials also noted that the programme forms part of a broader set of agriculture-focused reforms already under implementation, including the Kissan Card scheme and tractor-related initiatives. Together, these efforts signal the provincial government's continued emphasis on farm welfare and productivity enhancement in Punjab's agricultural sector.
