Overseas Pakistanis Send Home $7.3bn in Two Months as Remittances Rise 14.7%

Remittances from Pakistanis working abroad continued to grow strongly. According to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), workers' remittances in July-August FY2026-27 rose by 14.7% to $7.3bn, compared with $6.4bn in the same period last year.

August was particularly strong. Remittances totalled $3.7bn, 16.5% more than in August 2025, and 0.7% more than July's $3.6bn.

Saudi Arabia remained the largest source, with workers there sending $873.5m in August. The United Arab Emirates followed with $749.8m, then Britain with $563.7m and America with $308.9m.

Together, these four countries accounted for nearly $2.5bn, or about two-thirds of the month's total. Gulf countries provided the largest share, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE together contributing more than $1.6bn.

Remittances have now grown for two consecutive months and remain one of Pakistan's most important sources of foreign currency. They are helping to offset weak exports and higher import costs.

Their concentration in a few countries is a risk. Pakistan's external accounts depend heavily on economic conditions in the Gulf, Britain and America, where most overseas Pakistanis work.
