India using range of brutal tactics to silence journalists, activists in IIOJ&K

A UK-based law firm has launched a report highlighting New Delhi’s subversive activities of suppressing media in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

The report, launched in Islamabad on Wednesday, was published by Legal Forum for Kashmir and Stoke White Lawyers titled “India Silencing Journalism and Human Rights in Kashmir.”

Stoke White Investigations unit submitted extensive evidence to the UK Police War Crimes Unit documenting how Indian forces led by General Manoj Mukund Naravane and Home Minister Amit Shah were responsible for kidnapping, torture and extrajudicial killing of civilians in IIOJK.

The report documented two thousand testimonies in 2020-21.

As per detail of the Report, 450 cases of torture, 1500 cases of pellet gun victims, one hundred cases of enforced disappearance and thirty cases of sexual violence were recorded.

It draws special attention to India’s so-called counterinsurgency strategy in silencing journalism and human rights in occupied valley.

Speaking on the occasion, Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said India is trying to change demography of IIOJK by settling non-Kashmiri people in the valley on the patterns of Palestine.

He said around one hundred thousand RSS goons have been given the right to vote in the valley.

Quoting eminent Indian writer Arundhati Roy, the Senator said RSS is committing ethnic cleansing in IIOJK.

He said Kashmiri people are facing atrocities at the hands of occupying forces since decades but it has failed to suppress the truth.

Speaking on the occasion, All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Mahmood Ahmed Saghar urged the international organizations and the global community to play their role in providing right of self-determination to Kashmiris. He said sustainable peace cannot be achieved in the region without solving the long-standing issue of Kashmir.

Kashmiri Hurriyat Leader, Yasin Malik’s wife Mushaal Hussein Mullick, in her remarks, said draconian laws are being used in IIOJK to silence the voice of journalists. She asked the journalist community across the globe to raise its voice against suppression in the occupied valley.

Meanwhile, the Indian troops and police have intensified the reign of terror by stepping up their cordon and search operations and house raids to suppress the Kashmiris’ ongoing freedom movement.

The residents of many areas of Srinagar, Badgam, Ganderbal, Kupwara, Baramulla, Islamabad, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Doda, Kishtwar, Poonch, Rajouri and Kathua districts told the media that the Indian forces’ personnel have made their life a hell.

They said that during the operations and house raids, Indian troops and policemen barge into their houses, harass the inmates including women and even vandalize the household goods.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesman in a statement in Srinagar maintained that India through its brutal tactics cannot force the Kashmiris to surrender their just cause of securing their right to self-determination and they will continue their struggle till complete success.

He urged the international community to come forward in a big way and hold New Delhi accountable for its war crimes and crimes against humanity in the occupied territory.
