Yasin Malik detained on eve of Afzal Guru’s anniversary

Srinagar, February 08, 2016 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, Indian police detained Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chairman, Mohammad Yasin Malik, today, to prevent him from leading rallies on the anniversaries of martyred liberation leaders, Mohammad Maqbool Butt and Mohammad Afzal Guru.

Muhammad Maqbool Butt was hanged in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail on February 11, 1984, while Muhammad Afzal Guru was sent to the gallows in the same jail on February 9, 2013. Both the leaders remain buried in the premises of the jail. A JKLF spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar said that Yasin Malik was detained along with several leaders from Abi Guzar area of Srinagar.

Meanwhile, APHC leader, Javaid Ahmad Mir in a statement issued in Srinagar, paying glowing tributes to Mohammad Maqbool Butt and Mohammad Afzal Guru appealed people to observe complete strike on February 9 and 11 to press India for return of the mortal remains of the two Kashmiri leaders buried in Tihar Jail premises. He said: “Sacrifices of these two martyrs are a priceless asset with the Kashmiris, which would continue to influence the future generations to take the missions of martyrs forward till it reaches its goal.”
