World Health Organization mission visits Directorate General Health Services, Punjab

Lahore, February 18, 2016 (PPI-OT):World Health Organization (WHO) mission visited Directorate General Health Services, Punjab today. Dr. Irshad Sheikh and Dr. Hamayun Asghar, Consultants from WHO Cairo, Dr. Qutabudin Kakar, Dr. Sara Salman, Dr. Farah Sabih and Mariam Younas from WHO National Office, Islamabad and Dr. Jamshaid WHO Lahore were among the mission. Dr. Mukhtar Syed, Director General Health Punjab briefed the mission regarding health projects.

He said that Chief Minister is very much concerned about ZIKA and we had already meeting on it. As transmission is same like dengue, so the experts are well prepared to control the situation. WHO mission appreciated the efforts of Punjab Government under strong vision of Chief Minister and said that vector surveillance model of Punjab will be presented in regional meeting in Morocco next week so that other countries can replicate this model.

WHO also appreciated online vector surveillance system in Punjab WHO mission recommended that surveillance at Point of Entries and inter provincial coordination needs to be improved and WHO will fully support the Punjab Government for strengthening of Labs and for preparing SOPs.
