Wheat procurement drive in full swing

LAHORE –– Wheat procurement drive of Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) to achieve the target of 1.3 million tonnes is in full swing in different areas of Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan.

The Federal Government has assigned PASSCO to procure 1.3 million tonnes of wheat during the current year. The Corporation has set up 180 procurement centres in fifteen tehsils of Punjab while 11 procurement centres are working in Sindh and 8 in Balochistan.

During the first week of wheat procurement, the Corporation has distributed gunny bags for 442,258 metric tonnes of wheat on all the procurement centres. The Corporation has procured 274,482 metric tonnes of wheat from May 1 to 10, 2011. Growers will be given Rs 950 per maund for their produce while additional Rs 7 per 100 kilograms will also be given as delivery charges from the bank branch associated with their procurement centre concerned.
