US assures extending help to Pakistan in energy sector

Islamabad: Carlos Pascual, US Special Envoy for International Energy Affairs has assured that the US Government would extend all possible help in the energy sector to Pakistan particularly the Shale Gas and Tight Gas.

He said while talking to Federal Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Dr. Asim Hussain at his office here on Saturday. Secretary Petroleum & Natural Resources Division Muhammad Ejaz Chaudhry and other senior officers of the ministry were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Hussain warmly welcomed the US Special Envoy and accompanying members of delegation and reassured that energy security is vital to Pakistan’s economic growth. He apprised the US Special Envoy about the ongoing projects of the oil & gas sector in Pakistan and thanked the US government for taking interest in the energy sector of Pakistan.

He said that Pakistan always welcomes technological support from developed countries, particularly United States. The two countries are active partners in the war against terrorism and USA has been providing assistance to Pakistan in all fields of the economy.

The Federal Minister emphasized that the Power sector requires special attention and said that he is personally making efforts to resolve the fuel supply problems faced by power producers. He said that an effective business model for the energy sector is required and the government is undertaking to develop an effective model.

Dr Hussain informed the US delegation that the draft of the 2011 Petroleum Policy is being widely circulated to all stakeholders and comments thereon would be most welcomed.

Carlos Pascual thanked the Minister for meeting the US delegation and appreciated the efforts made by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources for resolving the energy crisis and assured that the US Government would extend all possible help in the energy sector particularly the Shale Gas and Tight Gas.
