United Nations Industrial Development Organization interested to have collaboration with Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority for development of small and medium enterprises sector

Lahore, May 16, 2014 (PPI-OT): United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has expressed keen interest to have collaboration with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) for development of SME sector in Pakistan.

Mr. Esam Alqrarah, UNIDO Representative based in Pakistan, during a meeting with Mr. Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, Acting Chief Executive Officer of SMEDA today at SMEDA head office proposed to form a working committee to identify areas of mutual interests in this regard.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Hassanien Javed, Provincial Chief, SMEDA, Mr. Imran Chaudhry, National Coordinator of the Investment Promotion Unit (IPU) and a number of other senior officials of SMEDA.

Mr. Esam Alqararah told that there was a vast scope for SMEDA-UNIDO collaboration in the fields of food packaging, Women Entrepreneurship Development and the Information Technology. He assured to work hands-in-glove with SMEDA to carry out all future initiatives in Pakistan. UNIDO Representative disclosed that UNIDO was planning to hold an international business conference in Pakistan to bring international investment and joint ventures in the potential sectors of industry.

Earlier, SMEDA Acting CEO Mr. Alamgir Chaudhry welcomed the UNIDO Representative and apprised him about SMEDA’s services and projects being run for development of SME sector in the country. He called for UNIDO assistance to enhance opportunities for access to finance, cluster development and e-payments for SME sector in Pakistan. He also highlighted the scope of UNIDO cooperation in the Prime Minister’s Youth Business Loan Scheme and the SME Club, which has been developed by SMEDA as an e-marketing platform for SME sector.

SMEDA and UNIDO agreed to compile a list of initiatives having a broader scope of mutual collaboration. The Acting CEO SMEDA assured to provide UNIDO with a brief concept note on SMEDA initiatives requiring UNIDO assistance for successful operation.
