UN chief offers mediation between Pakistan, India

Srinagar, July 15, 2016 (PPI-OT):The United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon has said that he is ready to mediate peace talks between Pakistan and India amid heightening tensions, provided the two neighbours accept his offer. The UN Spokesman, Stephane Dujarric said, “Good offices are a standing offer.”

He said this at the regular noon briefing while replying to a question from a journalist who referred to ongoing situation in occupied Kashmir and Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s statement in which he also blamed the media for inflaming the situation. He said that the UN chief had always encouraged direct talks between the two countries for the resolution of their outstanding issues.
