Turkmenistan, Afghanistan Presidents discuss TAPI gas pipeline project

Ashgabat: Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammadov in talks Thursday with visiting Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai paid special attention to cooperation in fuel and energy sector, specifically implementing Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India TAPI gas pipeline project construction, Turkmen government said, Trend news agency reported.

Both sides said implementation of TAPI large-scale energy project is important for all parties involved, and will directly help to stimulate Afghan economy, attract investment, address urgent issues, including employment, which will positively affect stabilization of situation in the country as a whole.

Implementation of TAPI project was launched in December 2010 at Ashgabat, where important agreements were concluded following high level summit. 17,000km TAPI project with design capacity of about 33 billion cubic meters gas per year is estimated to cost $7-8 billion. Raw materials source in addition to Dovletabad field will be Galkynysh field, which is one of the world super giants.

Turkmen media says in future TAPI gas pipeline may play role of effective stabilizing factor that can have positive impact on overall situation in Central, Southern Asia and adjacent regions, give additional stability to political, economic relations on the continent.
