Trading Corporation of Pakistan allocates quota to the shipping agents

Karachi, December 17, 2013 (PPI-OT): Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) has allocated quota of ships to its nominated shipping agents for import of 500,000 tonnes of urea. The TCP would import 250,000 tonnes of urea from Karachi Port and rest of the quantity would be brought in via Gwadar Port.

The allocation of ships has been given through ballot in which five out of 15 shipping agents were selected. The shipping agents present on the occasion said that out of 15 shipping agents selected in the draw 10 were not present on the occasion.

It is pertinent to note that there are a total of 43 shipping have been listed by the TCP for handling of its cargo. The draws were taken out in the supervision of Director Finance and General Manager Port Operation Department of TCP.

A prominent shipping agent Capt Raza Qadir Niazi who was also present on the occasion said that the TCP should only entertain those who are present during the draw. He disclosed that the first ever vessel which has brought the shipment of urea belonged to Chairman Pakistan Shipping Agents Association, Muhammad Rajpar. Capt Raza said that the Chairman TCP is striving for bringing transparency in the working of the corporation but some influential from private sector are the major hurdle in his efforts.

He said that he had objected the frequent presence and all the time roaming of Rajpar in the government offices without any terms of reference. He said that association’s office bearer had nothing to do with the affairs of the government organizations except the fact that he is receiving complaints from the members of the association against TCP. He said that the association’s general body meeting would be requisite if the Association’s chairman would not do away with his unwarranted activities.
