Sui Southern Gas Company receives 17 expressions of interest for LNG import

Karachi: Sui Southern Gas Company SSGC received interest from local and international players in response to its recent invitation for import of Liquefied Natural Gas LNG under Third Party Access, by receiving 17 Expressions of Interest EoIs to allocate capacity under its transmission system from leading companies interested in developing their LNG Floating Storage, Re-gasification Unit (FSRU), arrange their supply of LNG and having their buyers of re-gasified LNG RLNG.

Companies who submitted EoIs are Shell Gas & Power Developments B.V, 4Gas Asia, Granada Group of Companies, NatGas, BW Fleet Management AS, MTMKN Group, Global Energy Infrastructure Limited, Pakistan Gasport Limited, Kot Addu Power Company Limited, PK Energy, Vitol, Engro Corp Limited, SAF International, LNG Energy Limited, Iran Liquefied Gas Company, Trading Enterprises (Pvt.) Limited & Xpro Energy Limited, a SSGC press release said Tuesday.

The primary object to invite EoIs through print advertisement of May 24, 2011, was to ascertain number of parties interested in setting up LNG terminals, their state of preparedness so SSGC can accordingly plan to modify, augment its system to help provide entry, exit points to LNG terminal operators as well as intended volume they can transport through Company’s system. Advertisement was first logical step in encouraging interested parties to expedite setting up of LNG Terminals so that imported gas is made available at the earliest to meet its growing shortage to industrial, commercial customers.

Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Resources, led by Federal Minister Dr. Asim Hussain, is determined to bridge widening demand and supply gap on a fast track basis through LNG import.

SSGC & SNGPL are licensees of OGRA and operate under OGRA Ordinance, which will provide for common carriage and open access facilities to parties interested in transporting gas through the system of both Companies on a non-discriminatory basis. SSGC says Third Party Access will be in accordance and within provisions of OGRA Ordinance and Rules.

EOIs will be evaluated in transparent, non-discriminatory manner and on basis of criteria, terms and conditions listed down in advertisement. SSGC will shortly request interested parties to make presentations to establish their credibility, interest and capability for importing LNG on fast-track basis.
