Special economic zone to be set up in Sindh for promoting exports of marble and granite

Karachi: Sindh Board of Investment’s Board of Directors, which met here with SBI chairman Muhammad Zubair Motiwala in the chair, decided to establish special economic zone for promoting exports of marble and granite stones.

The zone would have facilities of cutting, polishing, manpower training, warehouses, space for display and placing machinery.

Zubair said the Pakistani stones are in great demand abroad but it lags behind due to poor technology. He told that Italy and China are keen to transfer such technology to Pakistan.

Secretary Investment Muhammad Younus Dhaga informed the meeting that Sindh government has allocated 300 acre land at Northern bypass for establishing Sindh Stone Development Company where fresh water would be supplied through a canal from Hub Dam.
