Special Assistant to Prime Minister Mr. Ashtar Ausaf Ali inaugurates launch of helpline for legal advice on Human Rights Violations

Islamabad, May 27, 2015 (PPI-OT): Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Law, Mr. Ashtar Ausaf Ali inaugurated the launch of helpline initiated by Ministry of Law, Justice and Human Rights for ‘Legal Advice on Human Rights Violations’ today. The purpose of establishing the help line is to provide legal advice on human rights related issues to the marginalized and vulnerable segments of the society. Mr. Ashtar Ausaf Ali while addressing the inaugural ceremony said, ‘’This helpline is a step towards safeguarding the human rights and provision of justice to masses, a commitment and promise made by PMLN to the people of Pakistan during 2013 elections.

The Government firmly believes to safeguard the public against injustice, inequality, oppression and discrimination. The helpline will not only provide free of cost legal advice on Human Rights related issues to masses but also refer the matter to the concerned quarters and will continue follow up until the grievance is redressed.

A referral system involving Mohtasib, police and health related institutions will be introduced for swift response. Government is committed to adopt all legal, economic and social frameworks to minimize Human Rights violations” He further expressed, “Performance report of helpline will be prepared and publicized bi-annually which will form the basis on which grey areas, having frequent Human Rights violations, will be identified and corrective measures will be suggested. Helpline will soon be made operational in all provincials in local languages.”

Mr. Ashtar Ausaf Ali appreciated the efforts of the staff of the project and Human Rights Wing of the Ministry lauds the involvement of media and civil society and sought the support of media in spreading the awareness about helpline to masses.
