Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority launches Helpdesk for small and medium enterprises financing

Lahore, February 24, 2016 (PPI-OT): The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) has launched “SME Financing Helpdesk” to help the SMEs have easy access to finance, It was disclosed by Mr. Muhammad Alamgir Chaudhry, Chief Executive Officer, SMEDA, while addressing participants of the first help desk arranged by SMEDA in collaboration with Bank Alfalah the other day at SMEDA head office.

CEO SMEDA was glad to notice that first SME Financing Helpdesk had received financing requests worth Rs. 283 million from 29 concerns dealing in manufacturing, trading and service sectors. He expressed deep gratitude to Bank Alfalah for deputing their active staff for quick processing of the financing requests received there on the spot.

CEO SMEDA has informed that such help desk would be arranged countrywide with the support of various banks. He said that SME Financing Helpdesks were being conducted in real time through a focused discussion between walk-in SMEs and bank representatives whereby, the SMEs were presenting their financing requirements. In return, the bank officials were offering best-suited loan products to the potential clients, he added.

He told that in lieu of the State Bank of Pakistan’s continued patronage for SME financing followed by the reduced KIBOR rates, the banks had started showing keen interest in exploring the SME sector’s potential for financing. Whereas, SMEDA has taken special initiatives to provide an all-encompassing one-stop solution to SMEs through its advisory services and assistance programs in the same spirit, he added.

Giving background of the SME Financing Help Desk’s idea, Mr. Chaudhry told that SMEDA, during its generic help desk operation, had attended over 90000 SMEs, majority of whom had been asking for financing. Same had been the demand of SME representative trade associations and chambers of commerce and industries. Therefore, SMEDA has now attempted to resolve this issue by launching exclusive help desk for financing, he added.

SMEs, which approached SMEDA for their requisite financing needs through the first Financing Helpdesk, have extremely hailed the efforts of SMEDA and considered it a hassle free movement for them. Owing to the success of pilot event in the head office, the program is now being planned in other business cities of all provinces in the country.
