Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority and First Women Bank Limited ink a deal to work together for the promotion and development of women entrepreneurship

Lahore, August 13, 2012 (PPI-OT): The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) and First Women Bank Limited (FWBL) inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today to work together for the promotion and development of women entrepreneurship in Pakistan.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SMEDA, Mr. Yousuf Naseem Khokar and President First Women Bank Limited (FWBL) Mrs. Shafqat Sultana signed the MOU. The signing ceremony was held in FWBL Head Office Karachi. Under the MOU SMEDA would establish the Women Business Incubation Centre (WBIC) aimed at providing support to women entrepreneurs in an exclusive women environment in Karachi.

The WBIC will be housed in the same building where FWBL Business Development and Training Centre and PECHS Branch is placed. This arrangement will provide the one window operation facility including credit to women entrepreneurs.

Speaking at the occasion the CEO SMEDA said that the business incubation centre will be established in a subsidized rented space provided by the First Women Bank Limited wherein, offices, exhibition/display facility and business development services including training programs will be offered to women entrepreneurs in collaboration with FWBL.

The entire effort would be focused at encouraging new business start-ups and support to existing businesses including the right environment for nurturing women owned and managed businesses to an extent that these become sustainable specifically in start-up period. SMEDA has established similar business incubation centres in the Lahore and Peshawar already.

Speaking at the occasion the President FWBL said that SMEDA would fulfill under one roof the requirements of the market-linkages and others for the women entrepreneurs. She urged the women’s to come out and take initiatives and stop looking towards government for every matter.

The signing ceremony was also attended by Mr. Muslim Raza Provincial Chief Sindh SMEDA, Mr. Mukesh Kumar Manager SMEDA Sindh and Ms. Shaheen from FWBL.
