Sindh Governor satisfied with Karachi’s K-4 bulk water supply scheme

Karachi, February 25, 2016 (PPI-OT):Governor of Sindh Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan chaired a meeting Thursday to review different development projects underway in Karachi. He expressed his satisfaction that work on the bulk water supply scheme (K-4) for Karachi is about to begin and that citizens will get an additional 600 mgd water during current year.

In an extensive briefing given to him by the concerned officials he was informed that work will be completed by Frontier Works Organization (FWO) and that private land needed to be included in the scheme will be procured without any further delay. It was a matter of satisfaction for the governor that additional 600 mgd water for metropolis, in the first phase of the scheme, will provide certain relief to the water starved citizens.

The Governor of Sindh was further informed that remaining portion of the Lyari Expressway, spread over a phase of 5.3 kilometres is fast being completed. Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan directed the concerned authorities to expedite the pace of work and that it must be immediately resumed on four kilometres of land already purchased by the government. He also directed them to ensure that compensation for houses that were demolished for completion of expressway project must be immediately paid to the actual owners.

Sindh Governor said importance of Lyari Expressway cannot be ignored as it will provide an alternative route to the heavy traffic and help ease flow of regular traffic on the roads in Karachi. The concerned officers were advised to also approach Karachi Port Trust, Port Qasim and Pakistan Steel Mills authorities to make the scheme all the more meaningful and beneficial for the citizens in general.

The governor assured that as representative of the federal government he would make efforts for early release of needed funds for different development schemes envisaged for Karachi. The meeting was also attended by Sindh Finance Minister, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Minister for Local Government Jam Khan Shoro, Sindh Chief Secretary, Siddique Memon, FWO Director, Maj. Gen Muhammad Afzal, Additional Chief Secretary (Planning and Development, Muhammad Wasim, Karachi Commissioner, Syed Asif Hyder Shah and others.
