Sindh government carried out 511 development schemes including 301 ongoing schemes worth Rs 8422 Million

Karachi, February 26, 2013 (PPI-OT): Central Deputy Secretary of PPP and Sindh Minister for Information Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that during last five year of PPP Government has carried out 511 development schemes including 301 ongoing projects by the Irrigation Department with the Cost of Rs. 8422 Million. This he said while talking to a group of media here at his office here today.

He said to boost up the national economy, to alleviate poverty in rural areas of Sindh and ensured delivery of drinking water to urban areas, the elected government started 3420 miles canal banks strengthening, 1895 miles re-sectioning of canals, 247 miles stone pitching, 5277 numbers of modules and 33 bridges are in progress, 73 % percent work has been completed.

Minister further mentioned in his statement that unfortunately the devastation of Super Flood 2010 and heavy rain fall in 2001 damaged the irrigation infrastructure of both sides of River Indus. The department prepared 76 different development schemes for remodeling of flood protective bundhs at the estimated cost of Rs. 18.00 Billion. The project has been executed with the assistance of Asian Development Bank, 70% work of this project has been completed.

The Minister further mentioned that the project of right bank outfall drain (BROD) is under construction from Sehwan to Sea. The project is being supported and monitored by 5-Corps engineer. He said that the completion of project will provide the facility to carry out the drainage effluent of Sindh and Balochistan provinces from Karam Poor to Sea at Gharo Creek and Manchar Lake and will be pollution free.

Information Minister further told that the present government assigned top priorities to Rehabilitation of Sukkur Barrage to improve its structures and allied works with the assistance of World Bank. Government focuses to establish small dams for agriculture and drinking purpose in Sindh ,he concluded.
