Shutdowns last resort for Hurriyet leadership: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, November 22, 2015 (PPI-OT): In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has said that Shutdowns are the last resort for Hurriyet leadership to show resentment against highhandedness of the Indian authorities. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a media interview in Srinagar said when the authorities do not even allow peaceful processions or even participation in condolence meetings for mourning the killings of innocent people, shutdowns become the last resorts.

“We understand that the authorities want to push the people to the wall and make them economically dependent besides crushing their political, social and religious rights,” he added. He said by imposing undeclared curfews and imposing severe restrictions on the movement of people, the authorities want to increase the burden of the people by making them economically weak. The Mirwaiz recently took to the Twitter with #askHurriyat for feedback and suggestions and netizens and people have started giving suggestions to him for alternative forms of protest.
